Founded in the late 9th century, Madrid was a fortress protecting Toledo, the ancient Visigothic capital.  Madrid is the capital of Spain and is also known as Villa y Corte.  It is the biggest city in the country with over 3 million inhabitants.  Counting its intramural population, Madrid is the second largest city in the European Union, behind Berlin.

Normally I prefer to visit quiet town or country side places but Madrid is an exception to the rule.  The atmosphere is so peaceful that it is difficult to resist its charm.  There are tons of historic sites to visit, majectic parks, incredible colorful restaurants and it's one of the best places in the world for art lovers and all that with courteous and well-educated locals... Madrid is certainly one of the most beautiful cities I have had the chance to visit.
